Chalumbe Secondary school

Project description:

The secondary school of Chalumbe has a total of 690 students (346 males and 344 females) of which 31 reach the grade 9 and after the entrance exam they will be able to continue to secondary schools.

The need for a secondary school has been expressed by the community on various occasions but unfortunately, the lack of funds has never allowed the construction of a school to be started.

The project for the construction of a building with three classes and two offices would allow the first teaching courses to be launched for classes from 10th to 12th.

Direct beneficiaries:  690 students

Indirect beneficiaries: 5000 total population

Kaulembe school

Project description

The project's aim was to help Kaulembe Community school to deliver quality education, the project focused on infrastructure improvement with a participatory approach. In line with the Ministry of Education district office, the school parents committee requested the construction of a 1x2 classroom block and a Nursery block.

Kaulembe community school, lessons for the 250 students were conducted under temporary shelters made out of wooden poles with a grass roof, making learning very difficult for students.

The community agreed to contribute 25% for all the upfront materials (sand, crushed stones and bricks). In the opening ceremony, the DEBS (District Education Board Secretary) and the Representative of Traditional leader expressed their gratitude for the support they received, as the improved school infrastructure will allow Kaulembe Community school to deliver quality education.

Kasenga and Katiobola school completion

Project description

The project's aim was to help  Kasenga and Katiobola school to deliver quality education, the project   focused on infrastructure improvement with a participatory approach. In line with the Ministry of Education district office the school parents committee requested for the construction of a 1x2 classroom block at Katiombola community school. Meanwhile, Kasenga school asked for support to complete the three classroom block.

At Katiobola community school, lessons for the 127 students were conducted under temporary shelters made out of wooden poles with a grass roof, meanwhile Kasenga Secondary school had only one classroom block for the 5 classes making it difficult for students to learn efficiently.

The community matched 25% of the funding with upfront materials for the construction of the targeted schools, through the contribution of sand, crushed stones and bricks.

Because of coronavirus pandemic Katiombola school is still closed, meanwhile Kasenga school was opened for examination classes, a distribution of hygienic materials have helped the school to meet the required standards.

In the opening ceremony the DEBS (District Education Board Secretary) and the Representative of Traditional leaders expressed their gratitude for the support they received, as the improved school infrastructure will allow Kasenga and Katiobola to deliver quality education to almost 400 students.

Takondwa pre school

Project description

All children of Zambia, especially the most vulnerable, need to be valued equally and offered opportunities in early childhood to ensure that they enter primary school with adequate skills. This will be achieved through increasing access to early childhood education opportunities. The Project of Takondwa preschool started in 2017 by establishing a preschool in the compound of Mchini and Mchenga.

Parents from these compound often have to go to work in town and leave their children at home with their siblings, children are often alone and without the supervision of an adult and they have no formal education.

The preschool was formed to answer the need mentioned above. With the local community and, a teacher and with the support of Diocese of Vittorio Veneto and other donors, for 3 years it was possible to rent a building and to offer early childhood education promoting and supporting integrated models of care.

At the of the 2019 the school was handed over to one of the teachers and is now functioning as a private community school.
